The Method

The Pilates by Izzy Method

Pilates by Izzy is built on the six classical Pilates principles — breath, control, concentration, centering, precision, and flow — adapted for at-home mat practice. Every session is structured around these ideas so that progress compounds week over week.

The Six Principles

  1. Breath

Lateral, intercostal breathing — inhale to prepare, exhale to engage. Every Pilates by Izzy class is cued breath-first so movement and breath stay linked.

  2. Control

Slow, intentional movement. We never sacrifice form for repetitions. Quality over quantity is the rule, on every single rep.

  3. Concentration

Mind in the body. Each cue is specific — which rib draws in, which sit-bone reaches long — so you finish class more aware than when you started.

  4. Centering

Powerhouse-first. Every Pilates by Izzy session starts and ends at the deep core: transversus, pelvic floor, multifidus, diaphragm.

  5. Precision

Small joints matter. We refine alignment through the spine, scapulae, and feet before adding load or tempo.

  6. Flow

Pilates is choreographed strength. Sessions build smoothly from warm-up to work to wind-down — no jarring transitions.

Method FAQ

What makes the Pilates by Izzy method different?

The Pilates by Izzy method takes the six classical Pilates principles — breath, control, concentration, centering, precision, and flow — and rebuilds them for at-home mat practice. Programs are sequential rather than random, and form cues are based on classical Pilates training adapted for students without an instructor in the room.

Is the Pilates by Izzy method classical or contemporary Pilates?

Both. The framework is classical: the six principles, the powerhouse focus, the order of operations within a session. The exercise selection is contemporary: progressions that build strength, mobility, and joint health for modern bodies.

How often should I practice the Pilates by Izzy method?

Three to five sessions per week is the sweet spot. Shorter, more frequent sessions outperform long, infrequent ones — which is why most Pilates by Izzy classes are 20–30 minutes.

Put it into practice
